Sow seeds directly in well-draining, loose, fertile soil in a sunny location. Plant seeds about 1/4 inch deep, spacing them 2-3 inches apart. Keep the soil consistently moist, but not waterlogged, especially during dry spells. Thin seedlings to about 3-4 inches apart once they are large enough to handle. Carrots prefer cooler temperatures, ideally between 55°F and 75°F (13°C - 24°C). Fertilize lightly with a balanced fertilizer, avoiding too much nitrogen, which can lead to excess foliage rather than strong roots. Mulch around the plants to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Harvest the carrots when they are fully developed, typically 70-80 days after sowing.
