70 seeds
Sow seeds directly in well-draining, fertile soil in a sunny location. Plant seeds about 1 inch deep and space them 6-12 inches apart. Sunflowers thrive in full sun and prefer warm temperatures (70°F - 85°F/21°C - 29°C). Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged, especially during dry spells. Once seedlings are established, they are drought-tolerant. Fertilize with a balanced fertilizer to promote strong growth. Provide support or stake tall varieties to prevent them from toppling over. Sunflowers are usually ready to harvest in 70-100 days, depending on the variety, when the seed heads are fully mature, and the back of the flower turns yellow. Harvest the seeds when they are plump and dry, either by cutting the head off or letting them dry on the plant.
