Sow seeds in shallow trays or directly in moist, fertile soil. Watercress thrives in cool, semi-shady conditions, so choose a spot with partial sun or full shade. If growing indoors, keep the trays in a location with indirect light. Sow seeds about 1/8 inch deep, spacing them lightly to avoid overcrowding. Keep the soil consistently moist, as watercress prefers wet conditions; it can even be grown in shallow water or along the edges of a pond or stream. Fertilize lightly with compost or a balanced fertilizer to promote strong growth. Harvest leaves when they reach 4-6 inches tall, typically 30-45 days after sowing. Regularly trim the plant to encourage new growth. Watercress is a fast-growing perennial, so with proper care, it can continue to produce throughout the growing season.
