Red Amaryllis is a spectacular flowering bulb known for its large, trumpet-shaped flowers in vibrant shades of red. The tall, sturdy flower stalks create an elegant display, making this plant an excellent choice for indoor decoration, patios, balconies, and garden containers. Amaryllis is relatively easy to grow and can produce beautiful blooms with proper care. In the Gulf area, it is best grown in containers where light, watering, and temperature can be controlled, especially during the hottest months.

Planting Instructions in the Gulf Area:

  1. Best planting time: Plant bulbs from October to February for convenient seasonal growing and flowering.

  2. Choosing a pot: Select a sturdy pot with drainage holes, approximately 2–3 cm wider than the bulb on each side. Amaryllis generally flowers well when slightly pot-bound.

  3. Soil: Use a fertile, loose, well-draining potting mix enriched with organic matter.

  4. Planting depth: Position the bulb with its pointed end facing upward. Leave the upper one-third to one-half of the bulb above the soil surface.

  5. Watering after planting: Water lightly after planting to settle the soil. Avoid soaking the bulb or leaving water standing in the pot.

  6. Light: Place the pot in a bright location with plenty of indirect light. Gentle morning sunlight is beneficial, but protect the plant from intense afternoon sun.

  7. Temperature: Maintain temperatures around 18–25°C for active growth and flowering. Protect the bulb from extreme Gulf heat.

  8. Watering during growth: Water when the upper 2–3 cm of soil feels dry. Keep the soil lightly moist but never waterlogged.

  9. Fertilizing: Once leaves begin growing, apply a balanced liquid fertilizer every 2–3 weeks according to the product instructions.

  10. Flowering: Flowering often occurs approximately 6–10 weeks after planting, depending on the bulb's condition, variety, and growing environment.

  11. After flowering: Remove faded flowers and the flower stalk once it begins to wilt. Keep the green leaves healthy, as they help replenish the bulb for future flowering.

  12. Summer care: Protect the plant from extreme heat and harsh afternoon sunlight. If the bulb enters dormancy, reduce watering and keep it in a suitable, well-ventilated location.

  13. Repeat flowering: With adequate light, regular feeding during active growth, and appropriate seasonal care, the bulb may flower again in a subsequent season.
