Amaryllis ‘Spartacus’ is a spectacular large-flowered Hippeastrum variety known for its bold red and white flowers with a bright lime-green throat. The flowers can reach approximately 15–20 cm (6–8 inches) across, creating a dramatic display.

A mature bulb can produce one or more sturdy flower stems, often carrying several large flowers per stem. Depending on bulb size and growing conditions, flowering may begin approximately 6–10 weeks after planting.

‘Spartacus’ is especially attractive when grown in containers, making it a good choice for patios, balconies and bright indoor locations in the Gulf.

🌿 How to Plant the Bulbs

1. Select a firm, healthy bulb with no soft or rotten areas.
2. Choose a pot with good drainage holes and a diameter only slightly larger than the bulb.
3. Fill the pot with a loose, fertile, well-draining potting mix.
4. Place the bulb with the roots downward and pointed growing tip upward.
5. Leave approximately the top one-third to one-half of the bulb above the soil.
6. Firm the soil gently around the lower part of the bulb.
7. Water lightly once after planting.
8. After the initial watering, keep the soil relatively dry until active growth begins.

Do not bury the entire bulb. Excess moisture around a deeply buried bulb can encourage rot.

• Make sure excess water drains completely.
• Reduce watering after flowering as the plant moves toward its resting period.

Overwatering immediately after planting is one of the main risks because the bulb can rot before it has established active growth.

Use a light, fertile and very well-draining mixture such as:

• Quality potting soil
• Mature compost
• Perlite or pumice
• A small amount of coarse sand

The most important requirement is excellent drainage.

After the flowers fade:

• Remove the spent flowers.

• Continue caring for the leaves because they produce and store energy in the bulb for the next flowering cycle.
