How to Seed Beetroot ‘Detroit 2 Crimson Globe’ (Beta vulgaris)

  1. When to Sow: Sow seeds outdoors from spring to early summer once the soil has warmed. For a continuous harvest, sow every 3 weeks until midsummer.

  2. Soil: Prefers light, fertile, well-drained soil, free from stones. Avoid recently manured soil to prevent misshapen roots.

  3. Sowing: Sow seeds 1–2 cm deep in rows 30 cm apart. Space seeds about 8–10 cm apart within the row.

  4. Watering: Keep soil moist, especially during dry spells, to ensure tender roots.

  5. Germination: Seeds sprout in 7–14 days at 10–25 °C.

  6. Thinning: When seedlings are about 5 cm tall, thin them to 8–10 cm apart for proper root development.

  7. Care: Weed regularly and water evenly. Avoid waterlogging, which can cause root splitting.

✨ Produces uniform, round, deep crimson roots with a sweet flavor and fine texture. Ideal for fresh use, roasting, or pickling.
