Amaryllis Yellow and Red is a spectacular flowering bulb valued for its large, trumpet-shaped flowers in attractive yellow and red or red-and-yellow combinations. Exact flower patterns and shades can vary depending on the cultivar or supplier.

Amaryllis is particularly well suited to container growing, making it a good choice for patios, balconies, entrances, and protected garden areas. In the Gulf, it performs best during the cooler months and should be protected from extreme summer heat.

🌿 How to Plant the Bulbs

1. Choose a firm, healthy bulb without soft spots, mold, or signs of rot.
2. Select a heavy pot with good drainage holes. The pot should be only slightly wider than the bulb.
3. Fill it with a loose, fertile and very well-draining potting mix.
4. Place the bulb with the roots facing downward and the pointed neck upward.
5. Keep approximately one-third to one-half of the bulb above the soil surface. Do not bury the bulb completely.
6. Gently firm the soil around the roots and lower part of the bulb.
7. Water lightly after planting and allow excess water to drain completely.
8. Do not leave water standing in the saucer.

🌡️ Sprouting

Amaryllis generally begins active growth in warm conditions. A flower stalk can appear within several weeks, with flowering commonly occurring around 6–8 weeks after planting, although timing varies by bulb and growing conditions.

Keep the newly planted bulb in a bright location and avoid excessive watering until leaves or the flower stalk begin to develop.

🌱 Early Plant Care

• Provide bright natural light.
• Water sparingly at first.
• Once leaves and active growth appear, gradually increase watering.
• Keep the soil moderately moist but never waterlogged.
• Rotate the pot regularly so the flower stalk grows upright.
• Large flower stems may need a support stake.

• Bright light or several hours of morning sunlight is ideal.
• In the Gulf, protect the plant from intense afternoon sun, particularly during warmer months.

Amaryllis can tolerate sun or partial shade, but excessive shade may reduce flowering.

• Water lightly after planting.

• During active growth, water when the upper layer of soil begins to dry.
• Never allow the bulb to sit in standing water.
• Reduce watering after flowering as the plant moves toward dormancy.

Important: Overwatering is one of the main risks because excessive moisture around the bulb can cause rot.

🌱 Soil

Use a loose, fertile and fast-draining mix, for example:

• Quality potting soil
• Mature compost
• Perlite or pumice
• Coarse sand or another drainage material

A well-drained growing medium is especially important in the Gulf.

🌿 Fertilizing

• Avoid heavy fertilizer immediately after planting.
• Once active leaf growth begins, use a light balanced fertilizer.
• After flowering, continue light feeding while the leaves remain green so the bulb can rebuild its energy reserves.
• Avoid excessive nitrogen.

🌸 Flowering

The large trumpet-shaped flowers are the main attraction of this Amaryllis. Yellow and red flowers can create a striking display, although the exact color distribution depends on the cultivar.

When the flowers fade, remove the spent flower stalk while keeping the healthy leaves. The leaves continue to provide energy to the bulb for future flowering.

🌿 After Flowering & Dormancy

After flowering:

1. Remove faded flowers and flower stalks.
2. Keep the green leaves.
3. Continue moderate watering and light feeding while the leaves are actively growing.
4. As the foliage naturally yellows and the plant enters dormancy, gradually reduce watering.
5. Keep the bulb in a protected, dry environment during its resting period if dormancy is required.

Amaryllis can be encouraged to rest for approximately 8–10 weeks before restarting active growth.
