  • Best Time to Sow (Gulf Region):

    • Sow seeds from February to April or September to November, when daytime temperatures range between 20–30°C (68–86°F).

    • Avoid sowing during the peak summer months (May–August) when temperatures exceed 40°C, as young seedlings are sensitive to intense heat and dryness.

  • Seed Preparation (Scarification):

    • Cassia javanica seeds have a hard outer coat that must be softened before sowing.

    • To improve germination:

      • Soak seeds in warm water (about 40–50°C) for 12–24 hours, or

      • Lightly scratch or nick the seed coat with sandpaper before soaking.

    • After treatment, seeds should swell slightly, indicating they are ready to plant.

  • Sowing Depth:

    • Plant seeds 1–2 cm deep in moist, well-drained soil.

    • Gently firm the soil over the seed and water lightly to settle it.

  • Soil Requirements:

    • Prefers sandy-loamy, fertile, and well-draining soil.

    • Ideal Gulf mix: 40% sandy soil + 40% garden soil + 20% compost or organic matter.

    • Ensure excellent drainage to avoid root rot during humid or rainy periods.

  • Light & Temperature:

    • Germination temperature: 25–30°C (77–86°F).

    • Requires full sunlight for strong, healthy growth.

    • In very hot areas, provide light shade during the first few weeks to protect seedlings.

  • Germination Time:

    • Seeds typically germinate within 10–20 days under warm, moist conditions.

  • Transplanting & Spacing:

    • Once seedlings reach 15–20 cm tall, transplant them into individual pots or directly into the ground.

    • Space trees 3–5 meters apart if planting in open areas or landscapes.

    • Choose a sunny, wind-protected location.

  • Growing Tips for Gulf Climate:

    • Watering: Keep soil slightly moist during the seedling stage; once established, Cassia javanica becomes drought-tolerant but benefits from weekly deep watering.

    • Feeding: Apply a balanced organic fertilizer every 4–6 weeks during active growth (spring to autumn).

    • Pruning: Lightly prune young trees to shape and remove weak branches.

    • Heat tolerance: Mature trees thrive in the Gulf heat but should be protected from harsh sun while young.

    • Blooms appear from March to June, producing clusters of pink to rose-colored flowers, highly ornamental and fragrant.
