70 Seeds
Chabaud Violet Katmerli Carnation prefers cool to mild weather. In the Gulf, especially Kuwait, it is best grown during autumn, winter, and early spring. Extreme summer heat can significantly reduce germination, growth, and flowering.
🌱 Best Sowing Time
- Gulf: September–November and January–February.
- Kuwait: October–November is the preferred period; January–February can also work.
- Avoid sowing during June–August because of extreme heat.
- Ideal germination temperature: approximately 18–22°C.
🌿 How to Sow the Seeds
- Use a light, fertile, well-drained seed-starting mix.
- Sow the small seeds approximately 0.3–0.5 cm deep, or press them gently into the surface and cover very lightly.
- Do not bury the seeds deeply.
- Mist gently with water to avoid disturbing the seeds.
- Keep the growing medium consistently moist but never soggy.
- Place the seed tray in a bright location with gentle sunlight or bright indirect light.
- Once seedlings develop several true leaves, transplant them carefully.
- Space plants approximately 20–30 cm apart.
⏱ Germination
- Germination usually takes approximately 7–14 days under suitable conditions.
- Keep the seed-starting medium evenly moist.
- Avoid excessive watering, which can cause damping-off.
- Good ventilation is particularly important after seedlings emerge.
☀️ Growing & Care
- Light: Full sun to partial shade.
- In the Gulf, provide morning sun and afternoon shade when temperatures become high.
- Soil: Fertile, slightly alkaline to neutral, loose, and very well drained.
- Watering: Water when the upper layer of soil begins to dry, keeping the root zone moderately moist.
- Avoid prolonged wet conditions.
- Fertilizing: Incorporate compost before planting and use a balanced fertilizer during active growth. A fertilizer supporting flowering can be applied as buds develop.
- Avoid excessive nitrogen, which may produce lush foliage with fewer flowers.
🌸 Flowering & Maintenance
- Chabaud carnations can take approximately 12–16 weeks or longer from sowing to flowering, depending on temperature and growing conditions.
- Remove faded flowers regularly to encourage additional blooms.
- Provide support if stems become tall or heavy with flowers.
- Good airflow helps reduce fungal diseases.
- Remove yellow or damaged leaves promptly.
🌡 Gulf Climate Tips
- In Kuwait, October–November is particularly suitable for starting seeds.
- During warmer periods, protect young plants from intense afternoon sun.
- Avoid exposing seedlings to temperatures above approximately 30°C for prolonged periods.
- Container cultivation is useful because plants can be moved to a cooler, partially shaded location during heat waves.
- Water preferably in the early morning.
- Ensure excellent drainage, especially in humid coastal areas.
- Avoid wetting the foliage late in the evening.
Tip: For Kuwait, sow Chabaud Violet Katmerli Carnation in October–November for the best chance of establishing healthy plants before the cooler flowering season.
