🗓️ When to Sow

• Outdoors (Recommended):

  • Early spring, as soon as the soil is workable

  • Or late summer to early autumn in mild climates for early blooms next year

❄️ Clarkia prefers cool growing conditions and doesn’t transplant well — direct sowing is best.

🌱 How to Sow

1. Choose a Site

   • Full sun (or partial shade in hot climates)

   • Well-draining soil; tolerates poor or sandy soil

2. Prepare the Soil

   • Loosen the soil and rake smooth

   • Water lightly before sowing

3. Sow the Seeds

   • Surface sow or cover with a very light dusting of soil (1–2 mm)

   • Seeds need light to germinate, so do not bury deeply

   • Gently press seeds into the soil for good contact

4. Spacing

   • Thin to 6–10 inches (15–25 cm) apart after germination

5. Watering

   • Keep soil evenly moist until germination

   • Water gently to avoid displacing tiny seeds

6. Germination

   • Takes 7–14 days at cool temperatures (10–18°C / 50–65°F)
