How to Seed Clary Sage – White Swan (Salvia horminum)
-
Sowing Time:
Sow seeds indoors in early spring (February–April) or directly outdoors after the last frost. -
Sowing Depth:
Scatter the seeds lightly on the surface of moist soil and press them gently — do not cover, as light aids germination. -
Soil:
Use well-drained, fertile soil with good moisture retention. A mix of garden soil and compost works well. -
Light & Temperature:
Place the seeds in a bright location with temperatures around 18–22°C (65–72°F). -
Germination Time:
Seeds usually germinate within 10–20 days. -
Transplanting:
When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into individual pots or directly into the garden, spacing 25–30 cm apart. -
Growing Tips:
Choose a sunny position. Water moderately and avoid overwatering. Clary Sage prefers warm, sunny spots and blooms beautifully in summer.
