How to Seed Cloud Grass (Agrostis nebulosa)
-
Sowing Time:
Sow indoors from March to May, or directly outdoors once the danger of frost has passed. In mild climates, you can also sow in autumn (September–October) for early spring growth. -
Sowing Depth:
Scatter the seeds on the surface of moist, fine soil and press lightly — do not cover, as light aids germination. -
Soil:
Prefers light, well-drained soil. Avoid heavy or clay soils. Cloud Grass grows well in sandy or loamy soils with moderate fertility. -
Light & Temperature:
Choose a sunny or lightly shaded position. Ideal germination temperature is 15–20 °C (59–68 °F). -
Germination Time:
Seeds usually germinate within 10–20 days under warm and moist conditions. -
Transplanting:
When seedlings are large enough to handle, thin or transplant them to 15–20 cm apart. For natural-looking displays, sow directly where they are to grow. -
Growing Tips:
-
Water gently but regularly until seedlings are established.
-
Once mature, Cloud Grass prefers dry, sunny conditions and requires little maintenance.
-
Avoid overfertilizing; poor soil produces finer, more graceful flower heads.
-
The plant forms airy, cloud-like flower sprays, ideal for cut or dried flower arrangements and adding soft texture to borders.
