Corn Marigold ‘Eastern Star’ is an annual flowering plant known for its attractive primrose-yellow to cream flowers with a chestnut-brown center. Plants have an upright, bushy habit and can reach around 40–75 cm depending on growing conditions. It performs best in full sun and well-drained soil.

It is not the same plant as Tagetes marigold. Corn Marigold belongs to Glebionis segetum (formerly Chrysanthemum segetum).

🌱 Best Planting Time in the Gulf

For the Gulf climate, sow the seeds during the cooler part of the year.

• Gulf region: September–February
• Kuwait: October–January, with February possible during a mild winter
• Avoid sowing during the extreme summer heat.
• For best results, aim for mild temperatures around 15–20°C during germination.

🌿 How to Sow the Seeds

1. Choose a sunny location with good drainage.
2. Prepare loose, fine soil and remove weeds and large stones.
3. Scatter the seeds over the soil surface.
4. Cover with only a very thin layer of soil, about 0.3–0.5 cm. The seeds should not be planted deeply.
5. Gently press the soil down.
6. Water carefully using a fine spray so the seeds are not displaced.
7. Keep the soil lightly moist until germination.

• Germination temperature: approximately 15–20°C
• Germination time: usually about 7–21 days, depending on temperature and moisture.
• Once seedlings appear, provide plenty of light and good air circulation.

🌱 Thinning & Spacing

When the seedlings are established, thin them to approximately 20–30 cm apart. This gives the plants enough room to branch and develop a fuller shape.

In the Gulf, give it plenty of morning and winter sunlight. If temperatures become unusually high, some afternoon protection can help extend flowering.

• After establishment, water when the upper soil begins to dry.
• Avoid constant wet soil and standing water.
• During cooler Gulf weather, watering requirements will usually be lower.

With suitable temperatures and light, ‘Eastern Star’ produces its attractive yellow/cream flowers from the cooler growing season into warmer weather. Regular removal of faded flowers can encourage continued blooming.
