1. Seed Preparation
-
Corycium seeds are extremely fine and require a well-drained sandy mix.
-
No soaking needed.
2. Soil Mix
Use a mix similar to South African fynbos conditions:
-
50% coarse sand
-
20% perlite
-
20% fine bark or peat
-
10% loam
Soil must stay airy, not compact.
3. Sowing Time (Gulf Climate)
-
Best time: Late October to early December (cool season).
-
Avoid heat above 30°C during germination.
4. How to Sow
-
Sprinkle seeds on the surface — do not cover them.
-
Mist lightly to keep the surface moist but never wet.
5. Light & Temperature
-
Provide bright indirect light (shade house).
-
Ideal temperature: 15–24°C during the day, cooler at night.
6. Watering
-
Keep soil lightly moist during germination and through winter.
-
Reduce watering once seedlings form tubers.
-
Summer dormancy: Allow soil to dry completely and keep pot in shade.
7. Growth Pattern
-
Seeds develop tiny underground tubers first.
-
Visible leaves may take several months.
-
Full flowering often takes 2–3 years.
8. Important Notes
-
Absolutely avoid summer watering—this kills the tubers.
-
Must be grown in pots, not ground soil, in the Gulf.
