🗓️ When to Sow

• Outdoors (Best):

  • Direct sow in early spring after last frost

  • In warm climates, you can also fall sow for early spring blooms

• Indoors:

  • Start 4–6 weeks before last frost, but handle carefully when transplanting (taproot-sensitive)

🌱 How to Sow

✅ Direct Sowing (Recommended)

1. Choose a Site

   • Full sun is essential

   • Prefers well-draining, light to sandy soil; does well in dry conditions

2. Prepare the Soil

   • Rake soil to a fine texture and remove weeds

   • Lightly moisten the soil before sowing

3. Sow Seeds

   • Depth: Sow seeds ¼ inch (6 mm) deep

   • Lightly cover with soil and press gently

4. Spacing

   • Thin to 8–10 inches (20–25 cm) apart once seedlings are 2–3 inches tall

5. Watering

   • Water gently and keep soil lightly moist until germination

   • After seedlings are established, reduce watering — drought-tolerant

6. Germination

   • Occurs in 7–14 days in warm soil (18–24°C / 65–75°F)

🌿 Growing Notes

• Height: 12–18 inches (30–45 cm)

• Bloom Time: Mid to late summer

• Deadheading: Encourages more blooms but not essential

• Fertilizer: Not needed; performs best in lean soil
