Creeping Lemon Thyme is a low-growing, evergreen aromatic herb with tiny green leaves that release a refreshing lemon fragrance when touched. It forms a dense mat, making it an excellent ground cover, edging plant, and container herb. During late spring and early summer, it produces small pink to lavender flowers that attract bees and butterflies. The leaves are edible and commonly used to flavor meats, poultry, fish, vegetables, soups, salads, teas, and herbal infusions. It grows very well in the Gulf when planted during the cooler season in well-drained soil.

• No soaking is required.
• Seeds are very small and should not be buried deeply.
• No cold stratification is needed.

Soil Preparation

Use light, sandy, well-drained soil.

Recommended mix:

• 40% Garden soil
• 30% Coco peat
• 20% Coarse sand or perlite
• 10% Compost

Ideal soil pH:

• 6.0–7.5

Sowing Method

• Scatter seeds gently over the soil surface.
• Cover with only a very thin layer (1–2 mm) of fine soil or vermiculite, or simply press seeds lightly into the surface.
• Keep the soil lightly moist until germination.

• Ideal germination temperature: 18–24°C
• Ideal growing temperature: 18–30°C
• Requires 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily.
• In very hot Gulf summers, light afternoon shade is beneficial.

Watering

• Keep soil evenly moist during germination.
• Once established, water only when the soil becomes dry.
• Creeping Lemon Thyme is highly drought tolerant.
• Avoid excessive watering and poor drainage.

• 25–35 cm between plants.
• Plants gradually spread to form an attractive carpet.

Harvesting

• Begin harvesting lightly once plants are 15–20 cm wide.
