How to Seed Cucumber Gherkin F1 ‘Santana’ (Cucumis sativus)
-
When to Sow: Sow indoors in spring (April–May), 3–4 weeks before the last frost. In warm climates, seeds can also be sown directly outdoors once the soil has warmed.
-
Soil: Prefers rich, well-drained soil enriched with compost, in a sunny, sheltered spot.
-
Sowing: Sow seeds 1–2 cm deep in pots or trays. For direct sowing, plant seeds in groups of 2–3, spaced 45–60 cm apart.
-
Watering: Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water at the base to avoid wetting leaves.
-
Germination: Seeds sprout in 7–10 days at 20–25 °C.
-
Transplanting: When seedlings are strong and frost-free conditions arrive, transplant them carefully to their final growing position.
-
Care: Provide support (trellis or netting) for climbing. Feed regularly with a potassium-rich fertilizer once flowering begins.
-
Harvesting: Pick fruits regularly when young (8–12 cm) to encourage continuous production.
✨ Produces crisp, uniform gherkins with excellent flavor, perfect for fresh eating or pickling.
