1. Seed Sowing Method (Required for Cymbidiums)
-
Cymbidium seeds must be sown using sterile flask tissue culture.
-
Use sterile agar medium under laboratory-style conditions.
-
Keep seeds at 22–25°C with 12–14 hours light (LED, soft white).
2. After Germination (Flask Stage)
-
Do not expose to Gulf heat; keep flasks indoors in cool AC room (22–25°C).
-
Allow seedlings to stay in flasks until they reach 3–5 cm tall with multiple leaves.
3. Deflasking (Transferring from Flask)
-
Rinse seedlings gently in lukewarm water to remove gel.
-
Pot in fine orchid mix:
-
50% fine fir bark
-
30% perlite
-
20% sphagnum
-
-
Keep humidity 60–70%, temperature 20–26°C.
4. Growing in Gulf Climate
-
MUST be kept indoors or in shaded greenhouse — avoid heat above 30°C.
-
Provide bright shade (60–70%).
-
Water when medium is almost dry; DO NOT overwater.
-
Use balanced orchid fertilizer 1/4 strength every 2 weeks.
5. Maturity & Flowering
-
Cymbidium tracyanum requires cool winter nights (10–15°C) to initiate spikes.
-
In the Gulf, this is achieved by:
-
Keeping plants outdoors in winter nights only when temperature is cool, OR
-
Using AC-cooled growing room.
