How to Seed Desert Bluebell (Phacelia campanularia)
-
When to Sow: Sow directly outdoors in spring or autumn, as these flowers prefer to be sown where they will bloom.
-
Soil: Thrives in sandy, well-drained soil with full sun. Tolerates poor, dry soils, making it ideal for wildflower or rock gardens.
-
Sowing: Scatter seeds thinly over prepared soil and press gently. Cover very lightly with a fine layer of soil (about 2–3 mm).
-
Watering: Water lightly after sowing. Once established, plants are drought-tolerant but will flower better with occasional watering.
-
Germination: Seeds sprout in 7–14 days at 15–20 °C.
-
Thinning: Thin seedlings to 15–20 cm apart for healthy growth.
-
Care: Requires little care—weed control and occasional watering during long dry spells.
✨ Produces a profusion of brilliant, bell-shaped blue flowers that brighten desert landscapes, borders, or wildflower mixes.
