🌱 Disa caulescens — Seeding Instructions (Gulf Area)

  • Best sowing time: November–January (cool season only).

  • Growth type: Terrestrial, cool-growing orchid (very heat-sensitive).

  • Germination method:

    • Mandatory: Sterile flasking on orchid agar medium.

    • Cannot be reliably germinated in normal soil or home conditions.

  • Temperature:

    • Germination: 12–18°C

    • Growth: 10–20°C

    • Temperatures above 25°C can be fatal.

  • Light: Bright but indirect light; no direct sun.

  • Humidity: High humidity 70–90%.

  • Watering: Constant moisture; medium must stay moist but well-aerated.

  • Growing medium after deflasking: Acidic, low-nutrient mix (peat + sand), kept cool.

  • Germination time: 4–8 weeks under sterile conditions.

Important Gulf note:
Disa caulescens is not suitable for outdoor Gulf conditions. Year-round air-conditioned or refrigerated greenhouse cultivation is essential.
