🌱 Disa chrysostachya (Torch Orchid) — Seeding Instructions (Gulf Area)

• Best sowing time: November–January only (cool season).

• Growth type: Terrestrial, cool-growing orchid, extremely heat-sensitive.

• Germination method:

  • Mandatory sterile flasking on orchid agar medium.

  • Cannot germinate in soil or normal pots.

• Temperature:

  • Germination: 12–18°C

  • Growth: 10–20°C

  • Temperatures above 25°C cause severe stress or death.

• Light: Bright, indirect light; no direct sun.

• Humidity: High humidity 75–90% with good air circulation.

• Watering: Constant moisture; never allow drying.

• Growing medium after deflasking: Cool, acidic, low-nutrient mix (peat moss + sand), kept evenly moist.

• Germination time: 4–8 weeks under sterile conditions.

Important Gulf note:
Disa chrysostachya is not suitable for outdoor Gulf climates. Requires year-round air-conditioned or refrigerated greenhouse conditions.
