1. Pre-germination preparation
-
Disa seeds are extremely fine and need sterile conditions.
-
Prepare a moist sphagnum + perlite + sand mix (50:30:20) or orchid seed sowing medium.
-
Sterilize the medium with boiling water or steam.
2. Sowing
-
Do not cover seeds; they need light to germinate.
-
Gently sprinkle seeds onto the moist surface.
-
Place in a sealed transparent container or plastic pot with humidity dome.
3. Temperature & humidity (Gulf conditions)
-
Keep 18–24°C, avoid heat above 28°C — use AC room or shaded greenhouse.
-
Humidity 70–90% is needed.
-
Avoid direct sun — use bright filtered light.
4. Watering
-
Medium must stay constantly moist, not wet.
-
Use distilled or RO water, avoid salts.
-
Never allow drying out — seedlings die quickly.
5. Germination time
-
2–6 months, sometimes longer.
-
Once seedlings are visible, slowly increase ventilation over weeks.
6. Seedling care
-
Transplant carefully once seedlings reach 2–3 cm.
-
Grow in cool, moist, bright conditions.
-
Best outdoors only in cool winter months; keep indoors during hot summer.
