Double Click Mix Cosmos is a beautiful annual flowering plant known for its large, full, semi-double and double flowers. The mix can produce attractive shades of pink, rose, white and crimson, depending on the seed line. It has delicate, feathery foliage and an airy growth habit that works well in flower beds, borders and large containers.
Cosmos prefers moderate temperatures and generally performs much better in the Gulf during the cooler growing season than during the extreme summer heat.
🌱 Best Sowing Time
- Gulf Area: September–February
- Kuwait: October–January
- UAE & Qatar: October–February
- Saudi Arabia & Bahrain: October–February
- Oman: September–February
- Best period for Kuwait: October–December
🌿 How to Sow
- Use a light, fertile and well-draining seed-starting mix.
- Scatter the seeds on the surface or sow about 3–5 mm deep.
- Cover only lightly with fine soil.
- Mist gently so the seeds are not displaced.
- Keep the soil lightly and evenly moist until germination.
- Place the seed tray in a bright, well-ventilated location.
🌡️ Germination
- Temperature: 18–24°C
- Germination: Usually 7–14 days
- Avoid very high temperatures during germination, as excessive Gulf heat can reduce germination success.
🌱 Seedling Care
- Provide strong natural light.
- Give young plants morning sunlight and protect them from intense afternoon heat.
- Water gently whenever the surface begins to dry.
- Provide good airflow.
- Thin crowded seedlings to prevent weak, stretched growth.
🌿 Transplanting
When seedlings have several true leaves:
- Harden them gradually before planting outdoors.
- Transplant carefully without damaging the young roots.
- Space plants about 30–45 cm apart.
- Choose a location with good drainage and protection from strong winds.
☀️ Sunlight
Cosmos grows best with around 5–8 hours of sunlight.
In the Gulf:
- Morning sun is ideal.
- Provide light afternoon shade during hotter periods.
- A temporary 30–50% shade can help during unusually hot weather.
- Avoid placing containers on extremely hot concrete, metal or reflective surfaces.
💧 Watering
- Keep the soil evenly moist during germination and early growth.
- Once established, allow the upper layer of soil to dry slightly between waterings.
- Water more frequently during hot, dry weather.
- Avoid continuously wet soil and poor drainage.
🌱 Soil
Use loose, fertile, well-draining soil. A suitable container mix can include:
- Quality potting soil
- Mature compost
- Perlite or pumice
- A small amount of coarse sand
Avoid excessively heavy or waterlogged soil.
🌿 Fertilizing
- Add compost before planting.
- Apply a light balanced fertilizer after the seedlings become established.
- Avoid excessive nitrogen, which can produce lots of foliage but fewer flowers.
- Moderate feeding is usually sufficient for cosmos.
🌸 Flowering
Double Click Mix produces attractive large, full flowers with colors that may include pink, rose, white and crimson. Flowering is generally strongest when temperatures remain moderate.
Regularly removing faded flowers can encourage continued blooming.
🔥 Gulf Climate Tips
- Treat cosmos mainly as a cool-season flower in Kuwait and the hotter Gulf areas.
- Start seeds during the cooler months rather than at the height of summer.
- Protect young plants from temperatures above approximately 30–35°C.
- Morning sunlight plus afternoon protection is especially useful.
- Good airflow is important in humid coastal areas.
- Use containers if you need greater control over sunlight and heat.
- Protect taller plants from strong winds with discreet support.
🌱 Growing Tip: For Kuwait, sow Double Click Mix Cosmos mainly from October to December. Keep the tiny seeds only lightly covered, provide bright morning sunlight, and protect young plants from intense afternoon heat.
