How to Seed Dwarf Coreopsis ‘Radiata Tigrina’ (Coreopsis tinctoria)
-
Sowing Time:
Sow directly outdoors from March to May, or in autumn (September–October) for earlier flowering the next spring. You can also start seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before the last frost for an early start. -
Sowing Depth:
Sow seeds on the surface of the soil and press lightly — do not cover, as light helps germination. -
Soil:
Prefers light, well-drained soil. Avoid overly rich soil, which encourages leaves instead of flowers. Coreopsis thrives even in poor or sandy soil. -
Light & Temperature:
Choose a sunny location — Coreopsis needs full sunlight for best blooming.
Ideal germination temperature: 18–22 °C (65–72 °F). -
Germination Time:
Seeds germinate in 7–14 days in warm, bright, and moist conditions. -
Thinning / Transplanting:
When seedlings reach 5–7 cm tall, thin or transplant them 20–25 cm apart for proper growth and airflow. -
Growing Tips:
-
Water regularly during establishment, then sparingly — Coreopsis is drought-tolerant once mature.
-
Remove faded blooms to encourage continuous flowering.
-
The ‘Radiata Tigrina’ variety produces vibrant yellow petals with deep red centers, creating a “tiger-eye” effect that’s perfect for borders, containers, and wildflower gardens.
-
Blooms from early summer through autumn, attracting bees and butterflies.
