How to Seed Dwarf Pink ‘Persian Carpet’ Mix (Dianthus chinensis)
-
Sowing Time:
Sow indoors from February to April, or directly outdoors from April to June after the danger of frost has passed. In mild climates, seeds can also be sown in autumn (September–October) for early spring blooms. -
Sowing Depth:
Sow seeds on the surface of moist seed compost and press lightly. Cover with a very thin layer of fine soil (about 0.3 cm), as light helps with germination. -
Soil:
Use fertile, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Dianthus prefers neutral to slightly alkaline soil and dislikes soggy conditions. -
Light & Temperature:
Place in a bright, warm spot with temperatures around 18–22 °C (65–72 °F). Avoid excessive heat during germination. -
Germination Time:
Seeds usually germinate in 7–14 days under warm, moist conditions. -
Transplanting:
When seedlings are about 5–8 cm tall, transplant them into pots or garden beds, spacing 20–25 cm apart. -
Growing Tips:
-
Choose a sunny position for the best color and bloom quantity.
-
Water moderately; allow the top of the soil to dry slightly between waterings.
-
Remove spent flowers to encourage continuous blooming.
-
The ‘Persian Carpet’ mix produces compact plants with colorful pink, red, and white fringed flowers, perfect for borders, pots, and garden edges.
-
Blooms from spring through summer, adding lasting color and fragrance to your garden.
