How to Seed Dwarf Stock Ten Week Mix (Matthiola incana)
-
Sowing Time:
Sow indoors from February to April, or outdoors after the last frost when the soil has warmed. In mild climates, you can also sow in late summer to early autumn for early spring blooms. -
Sowing Depth:
Sow seeds very lightly on the surface of moist, well-drained soil and cover lightly with a thin layer of fine compost or vermiculite (about 2 mm deep). -
Soil:
Use fertile, well-draining soil enriched with organic matter. Stocks prefer neutral to slightly alkaline soil. -
Light & Temperature:
Keep the seed tray in a bright, cool place at around 15–18 °C (59–65 °F). Avoid high heat, as it can reduce germination. -
Germination Time:
Seeds will germinate in 7–14 days under ideal conditions. -
Transplanting:
When seedlings have a few true leaves, transplant them carefully into pots or flower beds. Space plants about 20 cm apart. -
Growing Tips:
Choose a sunny spot with good air circulation. Water regularly but avoid waterlogging. Remove faded flowers to encourage continuous blooming.
The “Ten Week” variety blooms roughly 10 weeks after sowing, producing fragrant, colorful clusters.
