Egyptian Lavender, also known as Fernleaf Lavender, is a fragrant perennial with finely divided silver-green foliage and striking purple flower spikes. It is more tolerant of warmth than English lavender, making it one of the best lavender species for the Gulf when grown during the cooler months. It is ideal for herb gardens, borders, rock gardens, containers, and pollinator gardens, attracting bees and butterflies.

Best Planting Time

• October to January (recommended)
• Plant during the cool season for vigorous growth.
• Avoid sowing during the hot summer months.

Seed Preparation

• Refrigerate seeds for 2–3 weeks (cold stratification) to improve germination (recommended).
• After stratification, soak seeds in lukewarm water for 6–8 hours (optional).
• Use fresh, high-quality seeds.

Soil Preparation

Lavender requires light, sandy, well-drained soil.

Recommended mix:

• 40% Sandy garden soil
• 20% Compost
• 20% Coco peat
• 20% Perlite or coarse sand

Ideal soil pH:

• 6.5–8.0

Sowing Method

• Sow seeds in seed trays or small pots.
• Place seeds on the surface and cover lightly with 2–3 mm of fine soil or vermiculite.
• Keep the soil slightly moist but never soggy.
• Transplant seedlings when they have 4–6 true leaves.

• Ideal growing temperature: 18–30°C
• Requires 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily.
• Full sun produces the best flowering and fragrance.

Watering

• Keep the soil lightly moist during germination.
• After establishment, water only when the top 4–5 cm of soil becomes dry.
• Lavender is drought tolerant once established.
• Avoid overwatering.
