How to Seed Fennel Bulb ‘Florence’ (Foeniculum vulgare)

  1. When to Sow: Sow outdoors from late spring to mid-summer after the soil has warmed and frost risk has passed. For autumn harvests, sow in late summer.

  2. Soil: Prefers fertile, well-drained soil enriched with compost, in a sunny position.

  3. Sowing: Sow seeds 0.5–1 cm deep in rows. Space rows 30–40 cm apart. Thin seedlings to 20–25 cm apart.

  4. Watering: Keep soil consistently moist but avoid waterlogging. Dry soil may cause bolting.

  5. Germination: Seeds sprout in 10–14 days at 15–20 °C.

  6. Care: Weed regularly, water during dry spells, and mulch to conserve moisture.

  7. Harvesting: Bulbs are ready in about 80–100 days. Cut when swollen to 7–10 cm across, before they become tough.

✨ Produces crisp, aromatic white bulbs with a sweet anise flavor. Delicious raw in salads, roasted, or grilled.
