How to Seed Four O’Clock Flower Violet (Mirabilis jalapa)

Sow seeds indoors from February to April, or directly outdoors from April to June when the soil is warm and frost-free. In warm climates, seeds can be sown in autumn (September–October) for early blooms. -
Seed Preparation:
The seeds are large and hard. For faster germination, soak them in warm water for 12–24 hours before sowing. -
Sowing Depth:
Sow seeds 1–2 cm deep in moist, well-drained soil or seed compost. Cover lightly and firm gently. -
Soil:
Prefers fertile, well-drained soil. Four O’Clock flowers tolerate various soil types but bloom best in loamy soil enriched with compost. -
Light & Temperature:
Choose a sunny or lightly shaded spot. Ideal germination temperature is 18–22 °C (65–72 °F). -
Germination Time:
Seeds usually germinate in 7–14 days under warm, moist conditions. -
Transplanting:
When seedlings are strong enough, transplant them outdoors 30–40 cm apart. Handle gently to avoid disturbing their roots. -
