How to Seed Garden Mignonette (Reseda odorata)
-
Best Time to Sow (Gulf Region):
-
Outdoors: From October to February, when daytime temperatures range between 15–25°C (59–77°F).
-
Indoors or nursery trays: From December to February for early transplanting.
-
Avoid sowing from April to September, as high heat and humidity prevent germination and reduce flower quality.
-
-
Sowing Depth:
Sow seeds 0.5 cm deep in moist, fine soil. Cover lightly and press gently.
Garden Mignonette can also be direct-sown in flower beds, as it does not transplant well. -
Soil:
Prefers loose, fertile, well-drained soil enriched with organic compost.
Ideal Gulf mix: 40% garden soil + 30% peat moss + 20% perlite + 10% compost.
Avoid heavy clay or soggy soils. -
Light & Temperature:
-
Germination temperature: 18–22°C (64–72°F).
-
Place in bright, indirect light during germination.
-
After sprouting, move to full morning sun and partial afternoon shade for best results in the Gulf.
-
-
Germination Time:
Seeds usually germinate in 10–20 days under mild, moist conditions. -
Transplanting:
-
If started indoors, transplant very carefully when seedlings are small (5–7 cm tall).
-
Space plants 20–25 cm apart for compact, bushy growth.
-
Harden seedlings gradually before full outdoor exposure.
-
-
Growing Tips for Gulf Climate:
-

-
