Globe Amaranth ‘Salmon Pastel’ (Gomphrena globosa) is a heat-loving annual producing attractive, rounded flower heads in soft salmon-pink tones. It is a good choice for the Gulf because it tolerates sun and heat once established. For best results in Kuwait, start seeds during the mild warm seasons and avoid the extreme summer period.
🌱 Best Sowing Time
- Best sowing periods: February–April and September–October.
- Best periods in Kuwait: March–April and September–October.
- Avoid sowing during June–August, when extreme heat can stress young seedlings.
- Ideal germination temperature: approximately 21–27°C.

- Soil: Fertile, loose, and very well drained.
- Watering: Water regularly during establishment. Once established, allow the upper layer of soil to dry slightly between waterings.
- Globe amaranth is relatively drought tolerant once established.
- Fertilizing: Add compost before planting and use a balanced fertilizer occasionally during active growth.
- Avoid excessive nitrogen, which may encourage foliage at the expense of flowers.
- Good airflow helps reduce fungal problems.
🌸 Flowering & Maintenance
- Flowering may begin approximately 8–12 weeks after sowing.
- Remove faded flower heads to encourage additional blooms.
- The papery flowers are excellent for fresh arrangements and dried floral displays.
- Harvest flower stems when the flower heads are fully colored but before they become overly mature.
- Allow some flower heads to dry completely if you want to collect seeds for the next season.
🌡 Gulf Climate Tips
- Globe amaranth is well suited to warm Gulf conditions once established.
- Protect young seedlings from extreme heat during their first weeks.
- During very hot weather, provide 30–40% afternoon shade.
- Water preferably in the early morning.
- Avoid constantly wet soil; excellent drainage is particularly important in humid coastal areas.
- A light organic mulch can help reduce soil temperature and conserve moisture.
- For continuous flowers, make successive sowings every 3–4 weeks during the suitable season.
