Hooligan F1 Pumpkin is a compact hybrid mini pumpkin that produces attractive cream-colored fruits with green and orange stripes, typically weighing 300–500 g. The fruits are edible and also highly valued for autumn decorations and ornamental displays. This bushy, space-saving variety is ideal for home gardens, raised beds, and large containers. It performs very well in the Gulf when grown during the cooler season.

Best Planting Time

  • September to November (recommended)
  • A second planting is possible in late January to February in frost-free Gulf areas.
  • Avoid planting during the hottest summer months.

Seed Preparation

  • No soaking is required.
  • Optional: Soak seeds in lukewarm water (25–30°C) for 4–6 hours to encourage faster germination.
  • No cold stratification is needed.

Soil Preparation

Use fertile, loose, well-drained soil rich in organic matter.

Recommended mix:

  • 40% Garden soil
  • 30% Compost
  • 20% Coco peat
  • 10% Perlite or coarse sand

Ideal soil pH:

  • 6.0–7.5

Sowing Method

  • Sow seeds directly into the garden or large containers.
  • Plant seeds 2–3 cm deep.
  • Place 2 seeds per hole and thin to the strongest seedling after germination.
  • Avoid disturbing the roots by minimizing transplanting.

Temperature & Light

  • Ideal germination temperature: 22–30°C
  • Ideal growing temperature: 20–32°C
  • Requires 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily.
  • Full sun produces the highest yields.

Watering

  • Keep the soil evenly moist during germination.
  • Water deeply when the top 3–5 cm of soil becomes dry.
  • Reduce watering slightly as fruits mature to improve fruit quality.
  • Avoid wetting the foliage to reduce fungal diseases.

Germination Time

  • 5–10 days

Plant Spacing

  • 80–100 cm between plants.
  • 150–180 cm between rows.

Harvesting

  • Harvest 85–100 days after sowing.
  • Fruits are ready when:
    • The rind becomes hard.
    • The color is fully developed.
    • The stem begins to dry and turn brown.
  • Cut fruits with 5–8 cm of stem attached for longer storage.

Fertilization

  • Mix compost into the soil before planting.
  • Apply a balanced fertilizer every 2–3 weeks during vine growth.
  • Once flowering begins, switch to a fertilizer higher in phosphorus and potassium to encourage fruit production.

Gulf Climate Tips

  • Plant only during the cooler growing season.
  • Apply mulch to conserve soil moisture and keep fruits clean.
  • Water early in the morning.
  • Hand-pollinate flowers if pollinator activity is low.
  • Monitor for aphids, whiteflies, squash bugs, spider mites, powdery mildew, and downy mildew.
  • Hooligan F1 is excellent for home gardens, raised beds, decorative displays, patios, and container gardening throughout the Gulf.
