Karabey Black Winter Melon is a traditional heirloom winter melon variety that produces large oval fruits with a dark green to nearly black rind and sweet, aromatic, pale green to creamy-white flesh. The thick rind gives the fruit an excellent storage life, allowing it to be kept for several weeks or even months under cool conditions. It is rich in vitamins A and C, potassium, dietary fiber, and antioxidants. This warm-season crop grows very well in the Gulf when planted during the appropriate season with full sun and well-drained soil.

Best Planting Time

• February to April (recommended)
• August to September (for autumn production in suitable Gulf areas)
• Avoid sowing during the coldest winter weeks and peak summer heat.

Seed Preparation

• Soak seeds in lukewarm water (25–30°C) for 6–8 hours before sowing.
• No cold stratification is required.
• Optional: Soak seeds in seaweed extract to encourage stronger germination.

Use fertile, sandy, well-drained soil rich in organic matter.
