3 Bulbs
Lilium ‘White Pixels’ is an attractive Asiatic lily with upright stems and glossy green foliage. It produces white, upward-facing flowers with a dark red or burgundy centre and distinctive dark speckles across the petals.
The plant can reach approximately 60–90 cm, depending on growing conditions. It is generally non-fragrant and is suitable for garden beds, borders, containers and cut flowers.
Important: Lilium ‘White Pixels’ grows from a true bulb, not a tuber. The bulbs are ornamental and must not be eaten. Lily plants and bulbs can be toxic to cats if consumed. Wear gloves when handling the bulbs and keep them away from children and pets.
🌱 Best Planting Time
- Gulf region: September–February
- Kuwait: October–January
- Best period in Kuwait: October–December
- UAE & Qatar: October–February
- Saudi Arabia & Bahrain: October–February
- Oman: September–February
Avoid planting during the peak summer heat.
🌿 How to Plant the Bulbs
- Select firm, healthy bulbs without soft, damaged or rotten areas.
- Use loose, fertile soil with excellent drainage.
- Place the bulb with the pointed growing tip facing upward and the roots facing downward.
- Cover the bulb with approximately 10–15 cm of soil. Some larger bulbs may require slightly deeper planting, depending on their size.
- Leave approximately 15–30 cm between bulbs.
- Cover gently and avoid compacting the soil.
- Water after planting to settle the soil.
- Keep the soil lightly and evenly moist, but never waterlogged.
For containers, use a pot approximately 20–25 cm deep with drainage holes. Planting several bulbs together can create a fuller display, provided the container is large enough.
🌡️ Sprouting
The bulbs usually develop roots before strong shoots appear. Keep the planting medium moderately moist and place the container in a bright, well-ventilated location.
Avoid excessive heat and heavy watering while the bulbs are establishing.
🌱 Early Plant Care
- Provide bright morning sunlight.
- Protect young shoots from strong afternoon heat.
- Keep the soil moist but well drained.
- Avoid disturbing the bulbs after planting.
- Provide good airflow around the foliage.
- Support the stems if they become tall or exposed to strong winds.
🌿 Spacing
Allow approximately 15–30 cm between bulbs. For a more natural group planting, place several bulbs together while maintaining enough space for air circulation.
☀️ Sunlight
Lilium ‘White Pixels’ grows well in full sun or partial shade. It benefits from sunlight on the upper part of the plant while the root area remains cooler.
For Gulf conditions:
- Give the plant morning sun.
- Provide afternoon shade during hot weather.
- Use 30–50% temporary shade during severe heat.
- Avoid placing pots directly on hot concrete, metal or reflective surfaces.
💧 Watering
Keep the soil evenly moist during active growth, but do not allow standing water.
- Water after planting.
- Allow excess water to drain fully.
- Increase watering gradually as shoots and leaves develop.
- Water more frequently during hot, dry weather.
- Do not allow the bulb to sit in constantly wet soil.
Good drainage is essential because excessive moisture can cause bulb and root rot.
🌱 Soil
Use a loose, fertile and very well-drained growing medium.
A suitable container mixture can include:
- Quality potting soil
- Mature compost
- Perlite or pumice
- Coarse sand or horticultural grit
A slightly acidic to neutral soil is suitable for many lilies.
🌿 Fertilizing
- Add mature compost before planting.
- Once active growth begins, apply a light balanced fertilizer.
- Use a flowering fertilizer during bud formation if needed.
- Avoid excessive nitrogen, which may produce too much foliage and weaker flowering.
🌸 Flowering
White Pixels produces bright white flowers with a dark red or burgundy centre and dark speckles. It is an attractive choice for flower borders and cut-flower arrangements.
Remove faded flowers to improve the appearance of the plant, but do not cut the green foliage immediately after flowering. Allow the leaves to die back naturally so the bulb can store energy for the next season.
🔥 Gulf Climate Tips
- Plant during the cooler months.
- For Kuwait, October–December is the recommended starting window.
- Protect the plant from intense afternoon sunlight.
- Keep the root zone cool with a light mulch.
- Use containers if you need to move the plant into afternoon shade.
- Ensure excellent drainage, especially during humid weather.
- Protect tall stems from strong winds.
- Avoid hot rooftops and heat-reflective walls.
- Keep the plant away from cats and other pets.
🌱 Growing Tip: For Lilium ‘White Pixels’ in the Gulf, provide cool roots, excellent drainage, morning sunlight and afternoon protection for the best chance of healthy growth and flowering.
