How to Seed Livingstone Daisy Mixed (Dorotheanthus bellidiformis)

  1. Sowing Time:
Sow indoors from February to April, or directly outdoors from April to May once all risk of frost has passed. In warm climates, it can also be sown in autumn (September–October) for early spring flowering.

  2. Sowing Depth:
Sow seeds on the surface of moist soil or seed compost and press gently — do not cover, as light is needed for germination.

  3. Soil:
Prefers light, sandy, well-drained soil. Livingstone Daisy dislikes heavy or waterlogged soils. If sowing in pots or trays, use a cactus or sandy seed mix.

  4. Light & Temperature:
Place in a bright, sunny location. Ideal temperature for germination is 18–22 °C (65–72 °F). Good light ensures strong, compact seedlings.

  5. Germination Time:
Seeds usually germinate in 7–14 days under warm, bright, and slightly dry conditions.

  6. Transplanting:
When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them carefully outdoors, spacing 10–15 cm apart in sunny borders, rock gardens, or containers.

  7. Growing Tips:

    • Choose a full-sun position — more sun equals brighter colors.

    • Water sparingly; Livingstone Daisy is drought-tolerant once established.

    • Avoid overhead watering — it prefers dry foliage.

    • The Mixed variety produces a vivid carpet of red, orange, pink, yellow, and white daisy-like flowers that open in sunlight and close at night.

    • Blooms from late spring through summer, perfect for rock gardens, pots, and sunny slopes.
