Mixed Chrysanthemum is a beautiful flowering plant that prefers cool to mild temperatures. In the Gulf, especially Kuwait, it is best grown during autumn, winter, and early spring. Extreme summer heat can cause poor growth, weak flowering, and stress.

🌱 Best Sowing Time

  • Best sowing periods in the Gulf: September–November and February–March.
  • Best period in Kuwait: October–November and February.
  • Avoid sowing during June–August because of extreme heat.
  • Ideal germination temperature: approximately 18–22°C.

🌿 How to Sow the Seeds

  1. Use a light, fertile, moisture-retentive but well-drained seed-starting mix.
  2. Chrysanthemum seeds are small, so sow them on the surface or very shallowly.
  3. Press the seeds gently into the growing medium.
  4. Cover with only a very thin layer of fine soil or vermiculite, or leave them uncovered if the seed is extremely small.
  5. Mist gently with water.
  6. Keep the growing medium consistently moist but never waterlogged.
  7. Place the seed tray in a bright location with bright indirect light or gentle morning sun.
  8. Once seedlings have developed several true leaves, transplant carefully.
  9. Space plants approximately 25–40 cm apart, depending on the variety.

⏱ Germination

  • Germination generally takes around 7–21 days.
  • Keep the medium evenly moist during this period.
  • Avoid strong watering that may wash away the tiny seeds.
  • Good airflow is important after seedlings emerge.

☀️ Growing & Care

  • Sunlight: Full sun to partial shade.
  • In the Gulf, provide morning sun and afternoon shade, particularly when temperatures rise.
  • Soil: Fertile, rich in organic matter, loose, and well drained.
  • Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist, especially during active growth.
  • Avoid both prolonged dryness and waterlogging.
  • Water preferably at the base of the plant to keep foliage dry.
  • Fertilizing: Add compost before planting and use a balanced flowering fertilizer during active growth.
  • Avoid excessive nitrogen, which can encourage foliage at the expense of flowers.

🌸 Flowering & Maintenance

  • Flowering time varies considerably depending on the chrysanthemum type and growing conditions.
  • Once plants are established, pinch the growing tips to encourage branching and more flower stems.
  • Remove faded flowers regularly to encourage a longer flowering period.
  • Remove yellow, damaged, or diseased leaves promptly.
  • Provide adequate spacing for good air circulation.

🌡 Gulf Climate Tips

  • Chrysanthemums are best grown in the Gulf during the cooler months.
  • In Kuwait, October–February is particularly suitable.
  • During warmer weather, provide approximately 30–50% afternoon shade.
  • Protect young plants from hot, dry winds.
  • Container cultivation is useful because plants can be moved to a cooler, partially shaded location during heat waves.
  • Water in the early morning whenever possible.
  • Good drainage is essential, particularly in humid coastal areas.
  • Avoid wetting the foliage late in the evening.

Tip: For Kuwait, start Mixed Chrysanthemum seeds around October–November for strong establishment and attractive flowering during the cooler season.
