🌱 Best Sowing Time

  • Gulf: September–January.
  • Kuwait: October–November is the preferred sowing period.
  • A second suitable window is January–February if temperatures remain moderate.
  • Avoid outdoor sowing during the hottest summer months.
  • Ideal germination temperature: approximately 18–22°C.

🌿 How to Sow the Seeds

  1. Use a light, fertile, well-drained seed-starting mix.
  2. Moisten the growing medium before sowing.
  3. Sow seeds approximately 0.5–1 cm deep.
  4. Cover lightly with fine growing medium.
  5. Water gently with a fine spray.
  6. Keep the medium evenly moist but not waterlogged.
  7. Place the seed tray in a bright location with mild temperatures.
  8. Germination usually takes approximately 7–14 days.

🌱 Transplanting

  • Transplant seedlings when they have developed 2–3 sets of true leaves.
  • Harden seedlings gradually for about 7 days before planting outdoors.
  • Space plants approximately 30–45 cm apart.
  • Choose fertile, loose soil with excellent drainage.
  • Handle the roots gently during transplanting.

☀️ Growing & Care

  • Sunlight: Full morning sun with some afternoon protection during Gulf heat.
  • Soil: Fertile, loose, organic-rich, and well drained.
  • Water: Keep the soil moderately moist, particularly during flowering.
  • Avoid both prolonged dryness and waterlogging.
  • Add compost before planting and use a balanced flowering fertilizer during active growth.
  • Avoid excessive nitrogen, which can encourage leafy growth instead of flowers.
  • Pinch young plants at around 15–20 cm tall to encourage branching.
  • Remove faded flowers regularly to encourage continued blooming.

🌸 Flowering

  • Seed-grown dahlias generally begin flowering approximately 12–16 weeks after sowing, depending on temperature and variety.
  • As this is a mixed-color seed variety, flower color, size, plant height, and flower form may vary from one plant to another.
  • Mild temperatures generally produce better flowering than extreme Gulf heat.

🌡 Gulf Climate Tips

  • In Kuwait, October–November is particularly suitable for sowing.
  • During warmer periods, provide approximately 30–50% afternoon shade.
  • Protect young plants from hot, dry winds.
  • Mulch around the root zone to help conserve moisture and reduce soil temperature.
  • Water preferably in the early morning.
  • Avoid planting beside heat-reflecting walls and paved surfaces.
  • During extreme summer heat, flowering may decline or stop temporarily.

Tip: For Kuwait, sow Mixed-Color Dahlia seeds in October–November and grow the plants through the mild winter and spring season for the best chance of abundant, colorful blooms.
