Naranjilla is a subtropical fruiting plant grown for its round orange fruits with a distinctive tangy flavor. It prefers warm conditions but does not tolerate extreme Gulf heat well, particularly very hot, dry summer conditions. For Kuwait and the hotter Gulf regions, growing it in a container or a protected location with afternoon shade is recommended.

🌱 Best Growing Season

• Best sowing time: September–November.
• A second suitable period is February–March, provided extreme summer heat is avoided.
• In Kuwait and the hottest Gulf areas, October–November is particularly suitable.
• Avoid: June–August and periods of extreme heat.
• Ideal germination temperature: approximately 20–25°C.

🌿 Seed Sowing

1. Use a light, fertile, well-drained seed-starting mix enriched with organic matter.
2. Sow seeds approximately 0.5–1 cm deep.
3. Cover lightly with fine growing medium.
4. Water gently after sowing without disturbing the seeds.
5. Keep the growing medium consistently moist but not waterlogged.
6. Place the seed tray in a warm location with bright, indirect light.
7. Once seedlings develop several true leaves, transplant them carefully into larger pots or their final growing position.

• Avoid excessive nitrogen once the plant begins flowering and fruiting.
• Provide protection from strong winds, as the plant has relatively soft growth and can be damaged by hot, dry winds.

• Naranjilla may require several months to reach fruiting size.
