Natural Giant Belgian Tomato is a large heirloom beefsteak-type tomato known for producing exceptionally large, flavorful fruits. It grows best during the cool season in the Gulf and requires sturdy support because of its vigorous growth and heavy fruit.

🌱 Best Growing Season in the Gulf

  • Start seeds: August–October (for autumn and winter harvest) or January–February (for spring harvest).
  • Best outdoor growing period: October–April.
  • Ideal growing temperatures are 18–30°C.
  • Avoid planting during peak summer, as temperatures above 35°C can reduce flowering, fruit set, and fruit size.

🌿 Seed Starting

  1. Fill seed trays or small pots with a well-draining seed-starting mix.
  2. Sow seeds 6 mm (¼ inch) deep.
  3. Cover lightly with soil and water gently.
  4. Keep the growing medium consistently moist but never waterlogged.
  5. Maintain a temperature of 21–29°C for optimal germination.

⏱ Germination

  • Seeds usually germinate within 5–10 days.
  • Provide bright light immediately after seedlings emerge to promote strong, healthy growth.

🌱 Transplanting

  • Transplant seedlings when they have:
    • 2–3 sets of true leaves
    • Strong stems and healthy roots
  • Harden off seedlings for 5–7 days before planting outdoors.
  • Space plants:
    • 60–75 cm between plants
    • 90–120 cm between rows
  • Install strong stakes, cages, or trellises to support the heavy vines and large fruits.

☀️ Growing Conditions

  • Sunlight: 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily.
  • Soil: Deep, fertile, well-drained soil rich in organic matter with a pH of 6.0–6.8.
  • Watering: Water deeply and consistently to maintain even soil moisture.
  • Fertilizing: Apply a balanced tomato fertilizer every 2–3 weeks after transplanting. Increase potassium once flowering begins to encourage larger, healthier fruits.
  • Apply mulch around plants to retain moisture and keep the soil cool.

🍅 Harvest

  • Harvest fruits when they reach their full color and become slightly soft when gently pressed.
  • Large fruits may require 80–90 days from transplanting to mature.
  • Ideal for fresh slicing, sandwiches, salads, sauces, and cooking.

🌡 Gulf Climate Tips

  • Grow only during the cooler months.
  • Use 30–50% shade cloth if daytime temperatures exceed 32–35°C.
  • Water early in the morning to reduce evaporation.
  • Ensure good air circulation to minimize fungal diseases.
  • Remove lower leaves touching the soil to improve airflow and reduce disease risk.
