Pink raspberries are a naturally occurring color variation of the European raspberry (Rubus idaeus). Like red and yellow raspberries, they thrive in cool climates and require protection from the Gulf's intense summer heat. Growing them in containers or shaded garden areas is recommended.

Best Planting Time

  • Best sowing time in the Gulf:
    • November to January
  • Avoid sowing during the hot summer months.

Seed Preparation

  • Raspberry seeds require cold stratification to improve germination.
  • Mix seeds with moist peat moss or vermiculite.
  • Refrigerate at 2–5°C for 8–12 weeks.
  • Sow immediately after the cold treatment.

Soil Preparation

Use fertile, well-drained, slightly acidic soil.
Recommended mix:

  • Compost
  • Coco peat or peat moss
  • Perlite

Ideal soil pH:

  • 5.5–6.5

Sowing Method

  • Sow seeds in seed trays or small pots.
  • Plant seeds:
    • 3–5 mm deep
  • Keep the growing medium evenly moist.

Temperature & Light

  • Ideal germination temperature:
    • 18–22°C
  • Requires:
    • Full morning sun
    • Bright light
    • Afternoon shade in the Gulf climate

Watering

  • Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.
  • Water regularly, especially during warm weather.
  • Apply mulch to help conserve moisture and keep roots cool.

Germination Time

  • Seeds usually germinate in:
    • 30–90 days
  • Germination may be slow and uneven.

Transplanting

  • Transplant seedlings after they develop:
    • 4–6 true leaves
  • Space plants:
    • 60–90 cm apart.

Fruiting

  • Plants grown from seed usually begin producing fruit after:
    • 2–3 years

Gulf Climate Tips

  • Grow during the cool season.
  • Protect plants from temperatures above 32–35°C.
  • Provide afternoon shade during spring and summer.
  • Growing in large containers makes it easier to move plants to cooler locations.
  • Ensure good air circulation to reduce fungal diseases.
