🗓️ When to Sow
-
Indoors: Start 8–10 weeks before your last expected frost.
-
Outdoors: Sow directly after the last frost, but indoor sowing is preferred for earlier and more controlled growth.
🌱 How to Sow Indoors (Recommended)
-
Prepare Seed Trays or Pots
-
Fill with moist, fine, well-draining seed-starting mix.
-
-
Sow the Seeds
-
Sow on the surface — Nemesia seeds need light to germinate.
-
Do not cover; just gently press seeds into the surface of the soil.
-
-
Moisture
-
Mist gently to keep soil moist but not soggy.
-
Cover trays with a humidity dome or plastic wrap until germination begins.
-
-
Light & Temperature
-
Germination temperature: 60–65°F (16–18°C).
-
Place in bright light or under grow lights (12–14 hours per day).
-
Germination time: Usually 7–14 days.
-
🌿 After Germination
-
Remove covers once seedlings emerge.
-
Keep under light and allow soil to dry slightly between waterings.
-
When seedlings develop 2–3 true leaves, transplant to individual pots if needed.
🌸 Transplanting Outdoors
-
Timing: After danger of frost has passed and nighttime temperatures are consistently above 50°F (10°C).
-
Spacing: 6–8 inches (15–20 cm) apart.
-
Light: Full sun to part shade.
-
Soil: Moist, well-draining soil enriched with compost.
🌼 Growing Notes
-
Water regularly, especially in containers. Do not let dry out completely.
-
Deadhead to promote continued blooming.
-
Nemesia prefers cool weather and may decline in high summer heat — plant early or provide afternoon shade if summers are hot.
-
Often grown as an annual, but may bloom again in cooler fall weather.
