How to Seed Nemesia ‘Carnival’ Mixed (Nemesia strumosa)

  1. Sowing Time:
Sow indoors from February to April for early blooms, or directly outdoors from April to May once the danger of frost has passed. In warm regions, seeds can also be sown in autumn (September–October) for early spring flowering.

  2. Sowing Depth:
Sow seeds on the surface of moist soil or seed compost and press gently. Do not cover, as light is needed for germination.

  3. Soil:
Prefers fertile, well-drained soil enriched with compost or organic matter. Nemesia grows best in loamy or sandy soil that stays moist but not waterlogged.

  4. Light & Temperature:
Place in a bright, warm location with temperatures between 18–22 °C (65–72 °F). Avoid excessive heat during germination.

  5. Germination Time:
Seeds usually germinate within 7–14 days in warm, bright conditions.

  6. Transplanting:
When seedlings reach about 5–8 cm tall, transplant outdoors after hardening off, spacing 15–20 cm apart in garden beds, borders, or containers.

  7. Growing Tips:

    • Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during dry weather.

    • Choose a sunny or partially shaded location for the best flowering.

    • Remove faded blooms to encourage continuous flowering.

    • The ‘Carnival Mixed’ variety produces compact, bushy plants covered in vibrant flowers in shades of yellow, orange, pink, red, white, and violet, ideal for borders, hanging baskets, and window boxes.

    • Blooms continuously from spring to early autumn, attracting bees and butterflies.
