How to Seed Nemesia ‘Sundrops’ Mixed (Nemesia strumosa)
-
Sowing Time:
Sow indoors from February to April, or directly outdoors from April to May after the danger of frost has passed. In warm climates, seeds can also be sown in autumn (September–October) for earlier spring blooms. -
Sowing Depth:
Sow seeds on the surface of moist soil or seed compost and press lightly — do not cover, as light helps with germination. -
Soil:
Prefers fertile, well-drained soil. Nemesia thrives in loamy or sandy soil enriched with compost or organic matter. -
Light & Temperature:
Place in a bright and warm location with temperatures between 18–22 °C (65–72 °F). Avoid excessive heat or direct sunlight during germination. -
Germination Time:
Seeds germinate in 7–14 days under warm, bright, and moist conditions. -
Transplanting:
When seedlings are about 5–8 cm tall, transplant them outdoors 15–20 cm apart once the risk of frost is gone. Harden off gradually before planting outdoors. -
Growing Tips:
-
Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during dry periods.
-
Choose a sunny or partially shaded spot for best flowering.
-
Remove faded flowers to encourage continuous blooming.
-
The ‘Sundrops Mixed’ variety produces a dazzling mix of yellow, orange, pink, white, and purple blooms, ideal for borders, hanging baskets, and containers.
-
Blooms from spring to early autumn, attracting bees and butterflies.
