How to Seed Painted Daisy ‘Rainbow Mix’ (Chrysanthemum carinatum)

  1. Best Time to Sow (Gulf Region):

    • Outdoors: From October to February, when temperatures are mild (15–25°C / 59–77°F).

    • Indoors or nursery trays: From December to February for early transplanting.

    • Avoid sowing from April to September, as high heat and humidity reduce germination and flower quality.

  2. Sowing Depth:
Sow seeds 0.5 cm deep in moist soil. Cover lightly and press gently.
Painted Daisy can be direct-sown in its final location or started in small pots for easy transplanting.

  3. Soil:
    Prefers well-drained, moderately fertile soil.
    Ideal Gulf mix: 40% garden soil + 30% peat moss + 20% perlite + 10% compost.
Avoid heavy or clayey soils that retain excess moisture.

  4. Light & Temperature:

    • Germination temperature: 18–22°C (64–72°F).

    • Provide full morning sun and light afternoon shade in Gulf climates to prevent heat stress.

  5. Germination Time:
Seeds germinate in 10–20 days under warm, slightly moist conditions.

  6. Transplanting:

    • When seedlings reach 8–10 cm tall, transplant into garden beds or pots.

    • Space plants 25–30 cm apart for healthy air circulation.

    • Harden off seedlings before exposing them to full sun.

  7. Growing Tips for Gulf Climate:

    • Sunlight: Prefers full morning sun and light shade after noon for best blooms.

    • Watering: Keep soil evenly moist, watering early morning or evening. Avoid waterlogging.

    • Feeding: Apply a balanced fertilizer every 3–4 weeks during the growth and flowering period.

    • Maintenance: Remove faded blooms to encourage new flowers and extend the blooming season.

    • The Painted Daisy ‘Rainbow Mix’ produces striking, multicolored daisy-like blooms in yellow, white, pink, and red rings — ideal for flower beds, borders, and bouquets.

    • Blooms from late winter to early summer in Gulf climates.
