Parsley is a cool-season herb that grows well in the Gulf during autumn, winter, and early spring. It prefers mild temperatures and consistent moisture, while extreme summer heat can cause poor growth and early flowering.

🌱 Best Growing Season

  • Best sowing time: October–January.
  • In milder Gulf areas, sowing can also be done during February.
  • Avoid: Late spring and summer, especially during periods above 30°C.
  • Ideal germination temperature: 15–25°C.

🌿 Seed Sowing

  1. Choose a location with fertile, loose, well-drained soil.
  2. Parsley can be grown directly in the garden, raised beds, or containers.
  3. Sow seeds approximately 0.5–1 cm deep.
  4. Space plants about 15–20 cm apart.
  5. Leave approximately 25–30 cm between rows.
  6. Cover the seeds lightly with fine soil.
  7. Water gently immediately after sowing.
  8. Keep the soil consistently moist until germination.

⏱ Germination

  • Parsley seeds can be slow to germinate, usually taking 14–28 days.
  • Keep the seedbed evenly moist throughout this period.
  • Do not allow the soil surface to dry out completely.
  • Once seedlings appear, thin them carefully to the recommended spacing.

🌱 Growing & Care

  • Sunlight: Full sun to light partial shade. During cooler months, 5–7 hours of sunlight is ideal.
  • Soil: Fertile, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil enriched with compost.
  • Watering: Water regularly to maintain even moisture, particularly during the early growth stage.
  • Fertilizing: Add compost before sowing. A mild balanced fertilizer can be applied every 3–4 weeks during active growth if needed.
  • Avoid excessive nitrogen.
  • Remove weeds regularly so young parsley plants do not compete for nutrients and water.

🌿 Harvest

  • Begin harvesting once plants have developed several strong stems, usually around 60–75 days after sowing.
  • Harvest the outer stems first, cutting them close to the base.
  • Avoid removing too much foliage at one time; leave the center growth intact.
  • Regular harvesting encourages continued production.
  • Parsley can be harvested repeatedly throughout the cool growing season.

🌡 Gulf Climate Tips

  • In Kuwait and other very hot Gulf areas, November–January is particularly suitable.
  • Provide light afternoon shade when temperatures begin to rise.
  • Use mulch to keep the soil cooler and reduce evaporation.
  • Drip irrigation is recommended for efficient watering.
  • Water early in the morning.
  • Protect young plants from hot, dry winds.
  • For continuous production, make successive sowings every 3–4 weeks during the suitable season.
