How to Seed Poppy ‘Danish Flag’ (Papaver somniferum)

1. When to Sow: Sow directly outdoors in spring or autumn. Poppies dislike transplanting, so always sow where they are to flower.

2. Soil: Prefers light, well-drained soil in full sun. Avoid very rich soils, which can encourage foliage instead of flowers.

3. Sowing: Scatter seeds thinly over prepared soil and press gently. Do not cover, as poppy seeds need light to germinate.

4. Watering: Water lightly to keep soil moist, but avoid waterlogging.

5. Germination: Seeds sprout in 14–21 days at 12–18 °C.
