Red Cascade

1. Sowing Time:

   - Start Indoors: Petunia seeds need to be started indoors 8–10 weeks before the last frost date. This gives the seedlings time to establish before being transplanted outdoors.   

2. Soil:

   - Use a well-draining seed-starting mix or potting soil that is light and airy. Petunias prefer slightly acidic to neutral soil (pH 5.5-6.5).

3. Sowing the Seeds:

   - Indoor Sowing: Petunia seeds are very tiny, so sprinkle them evenly on the surface of the soil. Do not cover them, as they need light to germinate. Gently press the seeds into the soil using a flat surface or your hand.

   - Outdoor Sowing: In warm climates, you can directly sow the seeds outdoors after the last frost. Scatter the seeds on the soil surface and lightly press them in. Water gently to avoid disturbing the seeds.

4. Germination:

   - Petunias need light to germinate, so keep the seeds in a bright area or under grow lights. The ideal temperature for germination is around 70–75°F (21–24°C).

   - Germination Time: It typically takes 7–14 days for petunia seeds to germinate, though it can take up to 3 weeks in cooler conditions.

5. Transplanting:

   - Once the seedlings have 2-3 sets of leaves and the danger of frost has passed, transplant them into hanging baskets, containers, or garden beds.

   - Space plants about 10–12 inches apart to give them enough room to grow and spread.

6. Light:

   - Petunias, including Red Cascade, need full sun for at least 6 hours a day to thrive and produce abundant blooms.

7. Watering:

   - Water regularly, keeping the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged. Petunias prefer moist conditions but are susceptible to root rot if overwatered.   

8. Fertilizing:

   - Fertilize every 2–3 weeks with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer or one specifically formulated for flowering plants. This will help promote strong growth and a continuous display of flowers.

9. Deadheading:

   - To encourage more blooming, regularly remove spent flowers (deadheading) to keep the plant looking tidy and prevent seed production.
