How to Seed Red Pear Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum)
-
When to Sow: Start seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before the last frost date. In warm climates, they can be sown directly outdoors once the soil has warmed.
-
Soil: Use a light, nutrient-rich, well-drained seed-starting mix.
-
Sowing: Sow seeds about 0.5 cm deep in trays or pots.
-
Watering: Keep soil evenly moist but not waterlogged. Mist gently to avoid disturbing seeds.
-
Germination: Takes about 7–14 days at 20–25 °C.
-
Transplanting: When seedlings have 2–3 sets of true leaves, transplant them into larger pots. Plant deeply, covering part of the stem to encourage strong root growth.
-
Final Planting: After frost has passed, harden off seedlings and transplant outdoors into fertile soil, spacing 60–90 cm apart.
-
Care: Place in full sun. Stake or cage plants for support, water regularly, and feed with tomato fertilizer for best yields.
✨ Produces clusters of small, pear-shaped, bright red tomatoes with a sweet flavor. Excellent for fresh eating, salads, and preserves.
