Red Shiso is an attractive aromatic herb with deep red to purple leaves and a distinctive flavor. It grows well in warm conditions but does not perform well in extreme Gulf summer heat. For Kuwait and similar Gulf climates, grow it mainly during the cooler autumn, winter, and early spring months.

• Best sowing periods: September–November and February–March.

• Avoid sowing during June–August because of extreme heat.
• Ideal germination temperature: approximately 20–25°C.

🌿 How to Sow the Seeds

1. Use a light, fertile, moisture-retentive but well-drained seed-starting mix.
2. Sow seeds on the surface or only 2–3 mm deep.
3. Cover very lightly with fine soil or vermiculite.
4. Mist gently to avoid disturbing the seeds.
5. Keep the growing medium consistently moist but never waterlogged.
6. Place the seed tray in a bright location with morning sunlight or bright indirect light.

Tip: In Kuwait, October–November is an excellent period to start Red Shiso. Growing it during the cooler months generally produces better leaf quality and stronger color than attempting to grow it through the peak summer.
