Red Veined Sorrel is a distinctive leafy perennial herb with green leaves marked by attractive red-purple veins and a pleasantly tangy, lemon-like flavor. It prefers cool to mild weather, making the Gulf's autumn and winter months the best growing period.

🌱 Best Growing Season

• Best sowing time: October–January.
• In cooler Gulf areas, sowing can also be done during February.
• Avoid: Late spring and summer, especially during extreme heat.
• Ideal germination temperature: 15–22°C.

🌿 Seed Sowing

1. Choose a location with fertile, moist but well-drained soil.
2. Sow seeds in seed trays, small pots, raised beds, or directly in the garden.
3. Plant seeds approximately 0.5–1 cm deep.
4. Space plants about 20–30 cm apart.
5. Leave approximately 30–40 cm between rows.
6. Cover the seeds lightly with fine soil.
7. Water gently after sowing.
8. Keep the soil consistently moist until germination.

• Young leaves can be harvested approximately 30–45 days after sowing.
• Pick the outer leaves first, allowing the center of the plant to continue growing.
• Harvest young leaves for a milder, more tender flavor.

• Avoid harvesting too heavily at one time.

• In Kuwait and other very hot Gulf areas, November–January is particularly suitable.
• Provide afternoon shade when temperatures rise.

• Drip irrigation is recommended.
• Water early in the morning.
• Protect young plants from hot, dry winds.
• During very hot weather, container-grown plants can be moved to a cooler, partially shaded location.
